Obstacles faced by the canadian military in WW1?

soooo this question focuses more on "oh the germans used chlorine gas on the canadian military" rather than obstacles/sacrifices such as "oh the soldiers had to be away from their family" the thing is besides diseases and living in trenches my min dis gone totally blank?? help please :3
